We understand the importance of a supportive “home away from home” for our families during this difficult time – and this is why we provide more than just a place to sleep. Summer Camp is Back In-Person
Ronald McDonald Houses located throughout Southern California help families stay close to their child when they need treatment for a serious medical condition. Our Houses provide a home-like setting, close to the region's top hospitals, where families can stay free-of charge for as long as necessary. We provide compassionate emotional support for children, parents and families whether that be in our FSS office, in the playroom or kitchen, walking to the hospital with you or over Zoom. This care and support for families continues after you leave the House, and for those who return. On Valentine's Day, RMHCSC celebrated the opening of the Pasadena Ronald McDonald House.
Families
Ten years after opening, the Orange County Ronald McDonald House extended its services to inside the hospital setting by opening a Ronald McDonald Family Room® inside CHOC Children's at Mission in Mission Viejo. The Family Room allows families to rest and recharge while remaining steps from a pediatric or neonatal intensive care unit. A group of caring individuals teamed up to give children with cancer and their siblings an opportunity to “take a break” from their illness to just be “ordinary kids” enjoying the therapeutic benefits of the outdoors. Today, Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times® is situated in the picturesque San Jacinto Mountains near Idyllwild and offers year-round programs for children with cancer and families at no-cost.

Family Support Services (FSS) provides emotional support, education and resources to the families and staff of the Ronald McDonald House. Individuals, couples, and entire families are served in the privacy of the FSS offices, around the House, in the kitchen, playroom, on Zoom, or wherever a person feels most comfortable. FSS not only offers support to individual families, but also plans and manages House therapeutic activities such as Fun Clubs, holiday activities, and special events that provide a caring, supportive, and fun environment for all. FSS provides support and training for the staff at the Ronald McDonald House. This helps staff handle their own stress and feelings, which enables them to provide even better customer service to families.

When Brooke’s daughter Danica was injured, she refused to leave the child’s bedside. RMHC serves millions of children and their families each year, but more need our help.
Located steps from Miller Children’s Hospital, the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House provides the families of critically ill children with a safe and supportive place to stay. Research shows that a family's presence in the hospital helps children heal. Staying close by allows parents to better communicate with their child's medical team and improves adherence to complicated treatment plans. These are only some of the reasons that make Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California an important organization.
The Dining Hall/Activity Center increased camps capacity to serve campers by 25% and also allowed year-round programs with two new multi-purpose areas for activities and meetings. The desire for a program that supported the unique needs of families with critically ill children quickly spread to other cities. The Southern California chapter of Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) began in 1977 with the planning of the region's first Ronald McDonald House in Los Angeles blocks from Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Volunteer groups and community organizations show their love of families by hosting incredible holiday-focused events throughout the year, including parties, special meals, music and/or field trips. Reflecting the diverse communities we serve, most of our staff and FSS team is bilingual.
Research has shown that interactions with animals can positively impact a child’s health. Our House hosts specially trained and certified miniature horses, dogs and bunnies -- bringing smiles and joy to the families and children staying at our House. Fourteen years later, a new 27,780 square foot, 16-room and garage addition was dedicated on April 30, 1994. A unique feature of our House is the long-term housing wing that was designed to meet the special needs of bone-marrow transplant patients. Treatment for these patients requires an extensive hospital stay, anywhere from two to eight months, and the apartment-style wing provides an atmosphere that feels more like home. Because transplant patients are highly susceptible to infections, the units also have individual ventilation and air conditioning systems.
